John joined Cockersdale in 1985 after Peter Ogley had to leave the group because of voice problems. A Scot from Glasgow, John became involved in folk music when he came to Yorkshire. Having been involved in running two of the most successful folk clubs in and around Hull he became known for his excellent singing. He was asked by Keith Marsden to join the group and has been with them ever since.
John also performs with Paul Tebbutt who accompanies him on guitar and they perform at clubs and festivals.
